RG-6

Noun

RG-6 refers to one of the most widely used coaxial cables on the market. It is commonly employed in applications ranging from connecting amplifiers and CCTV systems to wiring cell phone signal boosters.

It operates at higher frequencies compared to other cables in its class, which is why RG-6 is commonly used in setting up radio antennas.

Unlike RG-11, RG-6 is cheaper to install, more flexible, and suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications. However, it has more signal loss over the same distance than RG-11.

Here’s a quick comparison between the RG-6, RG-11, and RG-58 cables:

Feature RG-6 RG-11 RG-58
Cable thickness 0.375 inches 0.75 inches 0.195 inches
Impedance 75 Ohms 75 Ohms 50 Ohms
Attenuation (1000 MHz) 6.54 dB/100 feet 4.23 dB/100 ft 14.5 dB/100 ft
Center conductor 18 AWG 14 AWG 24 AWG
